Former President Donald Trump has claimed in an interview that he directly requested Russian President Vladimir Putin to release American citizen Stephen Hubbard during their 2017 meeting in Hamburg. The statement comes amid ongoing discussions about prisoner exchanges and diplomatic efforts involving detained individuals. Hubbard, a former U.S. Marine, has been held in Russia since 2019 on unspecified charges. The White House has not yet commented on Trump’s remarks.
