"Visualizing the City: Interactive Map Tracks NYC News Sentiment" A unique data project has brought a new level of transparency to New York City's news landscape. A user-submitted map, accessible at voxorb.com/globe, uses color-coding to illustrate the sentiment of recent news stories, offering a dynamic snapshot of the city's current mood. By aggregating data from multiple sources, including European Media Monitor and the GDELT Project, the map updates every 15 minutes to reflect the ever-changing news cycle. This interactive tool allows users to explore the sentiment of news stories in real-time, providing a fascinating glimpse into the city's collective consciousness.

I mapped recent NYC news and colored each story based on how positive or negative it is. This was part of a larger thesis project, using data aggregated from multiple sources (including European Media Monitor, Common Crawl, GDELT Project, and RSS feeds) with some custom processing. It updates roughly every 15 minutes as new articles come in. I also built an interactive version if you want to explore it: https://voxorb.com/globe submitted by /u/Serkr2009 [link] [comments]
