New York City’s successful 2-K early childhood education program, which provides free prekindergarten to eligible families, is preparing to extend its reach beyond Manhattan and Brooklyn. The expansion will bring the initiative to the Bronx and Staten Island, aiming to offer more young children access to structured learning before formal schooling begins. Officials highlight the program’s role in narrowing achievement gaps and supporting early development, particularly in underserved communities. Families in the newly included boroughs will soon have the opportunity to enroll their children in the expanded initiative.
