A long-awaited trial is set to begin in a case involving two professional hockey players who were allegedly struck by a vehicle while cycling on a rural road. The incident occurred nearly two and a half years ago, following a nighttime collision in Oldmans Township that left the brothers hospitalized. Authorities have maintained the driver, identified in legal documents, faces serious charges related to the crash. The case has drawn significant public attention due to the high-profile victims and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The trial would come nearly two and a half years after Gaudreau, 31, and his 29-year-old brother Matthew Gaudreau, also a pro hockey player, were allegedly struck by Higgins' car as they were cycling on the side of the road in Oldmans Township on the night of Aug. 29, 2024.
