The New York Public Library has expanded its special collections with the addition of the GMHC archive, preserving decades of materials related to AIDS activism, LGBTQ+ health advocacy, and community organizing. The archive includes records from the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, one of the earliest organizations to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, offering researchers and the public access to historical documents, photographs, and ephemera. This acquisition strengthens the library’s role as a custodian of LGBTQ+ history, ensuring the legacy of grassroots movements remains available for study and reflection. The collection highlights the intersection of public health, social justice, and cultural resilience in the fight against stigma and disease.
