A new policy will prohibit the use of artificial intelligence tools for students from pre‑K through eighth grade for an entire year, while high schoolers will be allowed limited access. The move, announced by the state education board, aims to curb reliance on AI in early learning and ensure that younger students develop foundational skills without digital shortcuts. High school students, on the other hand, will still be able to use AI for certain assignments, but with restrictions on the types of tasks and the extent of assistance. The decision follows growing concerns about academic integrity, equity, and the impact of AI on developing critical thinking in younger learners.

Students pre-K through 8th grade will face a one-year blanket ban while high school students will have limited AI use available.
