Hi everyone. I'm a documentary filmmaker based in New York, and I'm working on a short film about Ichiju Sansai (一汁三菜) — the traditional Japanese approach to a balanced meal: one soup, three dishes. It's less about recipes and more about the mindset behind it. What does it mean to eat with intention? What gets lost when we don't? I'm looking to speak with an older Japanese woman living in New York — ideally someone who grew up cooking this way, who carries this sensibility in how she feeds herself or her family. A grandmother, a mother, someone who learned it from their own mother. Japanese-speaking is preferred; we will have a translator on our crew. If this sounds like someone you know — your mother, your grandmother, a family friend, a neighbor — I'd love to hear from you. Happy to share more about the project, talk on the phone, meet for coffee. No commitment involved in reaching out. You can message me here or reach me at littleroomcasting@gmail.com.
