According to reports, smoke from the blaze entered Penn Station, forcing authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety. The fire, which occurred in one of the tunnel's service tunnels, disrupted LIRR services, with multiple trains delayed or diverted. As a result, thousands of commuters were left stranded, causing gridlock at Penn Station, one of the busiest transportation hubs in the United States.
