A potentially catastrophic collapse on Manhattan's East Side has been averted, at least for the time being. The former Pfizer headquarters, a 12-story building at 630 Flushing Avenue, was deemed stable by the New York City Department of Buildings after a sudden collapse of a section of the structure sent shockwaves through the community. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud cracking sound and seeing debris falling from the building, prompting a massive response from emergency services and engineers. While the cause of the collapse remains under investigation, officials have confirmed that the building has been cleared for temporary occupancy, but its long-term fate remains uncertain.
