Betty Broderick, the California socialite who made headlines in the 1980s for her brutal murder of her ex-husband and his new young wife, has passed away at the age of 78. In 1989, Broderick was convicted of shooting and killing Dan Broderick, a wealthy attorney, and his second wife, Linda Kolkena, inside their San Diego mansion. The high-profile case drew widespread attention due to the gruesome nature of the crime and the fact that it was motivated by a bitter custody battle and a desire for revenge against her ex-husband, whom she believed had wronged her. As a result of her conviction, Broderick was sentenced to 32 years to life in prison, where she spent over three decades before her eventual release on parole in 2020.
